Farhan Saeed joined the Merchant Navy in 1988 and was engaged in world wide trading as a deck officer on General Cargo ships, Container vessels, and Passenger vessels with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation. His working career has been influenced by a variety of trades and cargoes inclusive of bulk loads, heavy lifts, and unitised parcels. His marine experiences being with derricks, cranes, gantries, and specialised lifting gear.
His marine studies, leading to a Master Mariners qualification, have been undertaken in the Pakistan Marine Academy, Australian Maritime College and at the Fleetwood Nautical Campus, in the U.K. He became interested in the Information Technology explosion and developed himself in computing skills to obtain an MSc. in 2001 from the University of Sunderland, UK. He then joined Fleetwood Nautical Campus in 2002 as lecturer where his computing skills and maritime background have contributed to maritime education.
He has developed Interactive Computer Disc, published with The Seamanship Examiner, to cover Rule of the Road and IALA Buoyage system, provides the user with an insight to an enjoyable, marine learning programme.
He became member of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers in 2005 and was awarded prize in the subject of ‘Port Agency’.
He is currently engaged as Lecturer in Maritime Studies at Liverpool John Moores University, UK.
